Canadian National Ski Mountaineering Championships

Castle Mountain Resort is pleased to announce the 7th annual weekend of Ski Mountaineering Events. This year will serve as the Canadian National Championships and will include a Sprint Race, a Vertical Race and an Individual Race (long and short courses).

What is Ski Mo?

Ski Mo is short for ski mountaineering. and is a skiing discipline that involves climbing mountains either on skis or carrying them, depending on the steepness of the ascent, and then descending on skis.

Competitive ski mountaineering is typically a timed racing event that follows an established trail through challenging winter alpine terrain while passing through a series of checkpoints. Racers climb and descend under their own power using back-country skiing equipment and techniques.
