Powder Stagecoach Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make a
reservation?
You can check availability on our online calendar here but we
would like to talk to you directly when making your booking to ensure you have
all the information you need and that you are prepared for your Cat Skiing
Adventure!
Give us a shout on 403 627 5101 or shoot us an email at powderstagecoach@skicastle.ca
Can you give me a
brief outline of the day?
Below is what a typical day looks like, there are lots of
factors including weather, snow control and guests being on time that can alter
the day slightly.
8am- Check in at Barnaby's, coffee & muffins
while completing waivers and we talk safety 8:45am- we are typically starting to head out the door 9:00am - 3:30pm On the Huckleberry Chair
to meet the Cat, on the cat up Haig Ridge, down the mountain, faceshots. Repeat. 4:00pm- gather in Barnaby to check out the photos from the day, share stories
and have a Moosehead on us!
What is the terrain
like?
Wide open bowls, trees, gullies, wind lips we've got it
all! If you've skied/rode the main
mountain at Castle Mountain Resort before the Cat skiing area is a bit mellower
than our main mountain. Not sure if your skills are quite up to
scratch, why not book a powder lesson with our ski instructors?!
How many Cats do you
operate per day?
We operate one cat with two groups, while one goes up, one
goes down!
What does "lift assisted" mean?
We run a combination of chairlift and snow cat for our Cat Skiing operation. You start on the chairlift, ride the lift to the top then jump on the cat to go even farther up Haig Mountain. This gives us the opportunity to ride 1500-2200 vertical feet per run! Each run you return to the base area and ride Huckleberry lift to the top to catch the cat.
What is your
cancellation policy?
Cancellations: Before 30 days $25 processing
fee - 29-8 days $150 cancellation fee -7 days- no refund . If WE
cancel the Powder Stagecoach due to weather or unforeseen circumstances an
alternative date will be offered or a full refund will be provided.
Do you have bathrooms in the Cat Skiing Terrain?
We come into the base area every run, so there is an
opportunity for a quick break if needed.
Ask your hosts where the nearest bathroom is so you don't miss out on
any runs!
I want the terrain to
myself, what are my options (Private Cat Rental)?
We have private terrain rental(22 seats) and semi-private terrain
rental (11 seats) from $2950+gst per day.
Do I need to bring my
own Avalanche Gear?
We supply all the avalanche gear you need and its included
in the price. An Ortovox backpack,
probe, shovel & transceiver will be waiting for you at check in. If you would like use your own equipment
please bring it with you to check in with full batteries and show it to our
hosts to approve use.
Should I rent Fat
Skis?
Fat skis and boards generally make your day on the Powder
Stagecoach easier and more fun. Fats
will help you "surf" through deep snow, riding on top and not sinking to the
bottom. You can book fat skis with us
when you reserve your seat on the cat.
Click HERE to see some of the skis that
are available to demo. We recommend at
least 90mm underfoot!
What should I bring?
Check the weather before you come to make sure you have
clothing for the conditions, it never hurts to throw a variety in your car so
you have it on hand. Good long
underwear, warm gloves, goggles and a
facemask are a must! We pack you a lunch or if the weather permits provide a BBQ on mountain but its always good to bring a snack to keep your engery levels up!
Do you stop for
lunch?
It depends on Mother Nature. Included in your day on the Stagecoach is a BBQ lunch mid slope or a bagged lunch. If its chilly we will be chowin' down in the cat on the way up if the suns out we stop for a quick burger or smokie!
How much vertical
should I expect in a day?
On a typical day we average 6-8 runs of approximately 2000 vertical
feet per run. We don't have a cap on how
much you can do!
What if I get tired during the day?
You are welcome to skip a run and have a break in our day lodge if it is needed. One of the great benefits of being resort based, you can grab a coffee, warm up in the lodge or just rest your muscles and catch the group on the next lap.
Will I have cell phone reception or wifi available?
We do not have cell reception in the base area, depending on your provider you may get a signal at the top of the Cat Skiing Terrain! Wifi is available in the base area (at check in/end of day).
Where should I stay?
Being Resort based allows you to choose from a wide variety of accommodation options. Check out our accommodations page here for options and information.
Should I tip my
hosts?
Gratuities are not expected or required however they are
always appreciated, they are not included.
Can I bring my whole
family?
We host guests aged 16 years and older on the Cat, however
if you have family members under 14 or family or friends who don't quite think
they are up for a Cat Skiing adventure they might want to check out Castle
Mountain Resort. The adventurers of the
family can head out on the Cat and those not feeling quite up for the cat can
cruise on the groomers of Mount Haig or rip down the steeps of Gravenstafel! Powder Stagecoach Cat Skiing is resort based
so we can usually find something for everyone in the family!
