If you’re planning your first trip to Castle Mountain Resort, you’re in for something special. Tucked into the southwest corner of Alberta, Castle is a local’s favourite, known for its authentic mountain experience, deep snow, and terrain that keeps even the most seasoned skiers coming back for more.
THE MOUNTAIN WITH HEART
Castle isn’t your typical commercial ski resort. It’s independently owned, community-driven, and full of character. That means you won’t find massive crowds, overpriced lattes, or long lift lines. Instead, you’ll find passionate locals, friendly staff, and a down-to-earth feel where the focus is on snow, not flash.
And speaking of snow—Castle averages 850cm of snowfall per season. That’s some of the deepest natural snow in Alberta, and thanks to its remote location and low crowds, the powder tends to last much longer than at larger resorts.
TERRAIN FOR EVERY LEVEL
Castle boasts over 3,500 acres of skiable terrain and a leg-burning 2,833 feet of vertical drop, making it one of the most expansive resorts in the province. Whether you’re strapping on skis for the first time or looking to charge steep chutes, there’s something here for everyone.
Beginners will feel right at home on the Green Chair and in the learning area, where wide, gentle runs make for a great place to get comfortable. The Huckleberry Chair offers a perfect next step, with mellow groomers and scenic glades that are ideal for progressing skills without feeling overwhelmed.
For intermediate riders, Castle delivers nicely groomed blues and the kind of long, flowing runs that give you room to explore. The Stagecoach Express, coming this winter, will provide even more blue/black terrain for skiers and riders to explore.
And if you’re ready for more challenge, head up Sundance or Tamarack chairs where steep groomers, bowls, and glades await. Advanced terrain here is plentiful, varied, and often gloriously empty.
WHAT MAKES CASTLE UNIQUE?
What really sets Castle apart is its authenticity. The terrain is raw and natural and the vibe is refreshingly real. It’s a place where people come for the love of skiing/riding. The landscape is stunning too, with wide-open alpine bowls, snow-laden trees, and expansive views of the West Castle Valley.
Another unique feature is how much vertical you can rack up in a single run. With over 2,800 vertical feet top-to-bottom, Castle offers some of the longest fall-line skiing in Alberta.
