From the majestic, eastern slopes of the Canadian Rockies, this is Cole checking in with your first snow report of the 2022-2023 season, at Castle Mountain Resort.

Today is the first of two (2) Sneak Peek operating days where we're expecting ALL trails within the Huckleberry Chair zone and the Green Chair zone to be open. The runs of Lone Ranger, Tumbleweed, and mid + lower Buffalo Flats will be groomed and are most recommended on the Huckleberry side. Other trails in this area will be open and will sport marginal / all-natural snow coverage. All trails within the Green Chair zone will be groomed. The Huckleberry Chairlift, Green Chairlift, and Buckaroo carpet are all scheduled to be in operation from 9 AM to 4 PM today.

We saw some snow overnight - nearly 10 cm at mid-mountain - which is a great way for us to kick off the season. For weather today we're expecting mainly sunny skies this morning with increasing cloudiness later this afternoon. More snow is expected through the overnight hours into Sunday, possibly contributing another 10 + cm. Our mid-mountain high is expected to be -2 with alpine winds of 40 km/h gusting to 60 out of the west.

Regular rates will be in effect on Huckleberry Chairlift and Green Chair tickets. Lake Louise Plus Card holders and Lake Louise season pass holders are eligible for $5 off all Huckleberry Chair rates while Castle WOW Card holders will save 35% off Huckleberry Chair rates for this special Sneak Peek weekend. Unrestricted and restricted Castle Mountain Resort pass holders are welcome to visit us this weekend at no cost!

Last but not least, on the Sneak Peek terrain front, our cat skiing area will be open / available for backcountry touring. All those accessing this terrain should be equipped with avalanche safety equipment, ski and/or ride with buddies, and be prepared to self rescue in the event of an incident. Terrain within our cat skiing area is unpatrolled and uncontrolled.

Snow coverage in the early season, especially on trails without snow making, can be quite thin. With so much season in front of us, we remind all guests to be aware and ski / ride with care. Ease into the season and be mindful of natual and human-made obstacles that may be more apparent at this time of year, due to a thin snowpack.

Please note that Castle Mountain Resort will be closed from Monday, November 28 to Thursday, December 1, re-opening for the season with 7 day / week operations starting on Friday, December 2.
