Ever wonder how we organize our lift-assisted Powder Stagecoach operations? Maybe you were hesitant to book through a lack of understanding, or you just fancy knowing a little bit more, this blog post should help with that.
Castle Mountain Resort is one of only a few resorts in North America that boasts a resort based cat skiing operation. Add to this the fact that our operation is partially lift assisted, and our Powder Stagecoach Cat Skiing operation is truly one of a kind. Our day begins with a safety briefing and breakfast buffet in our day lodge where our experienced cat ski guides offer their thoughts and advice on the day coming up. Avalanche safety equipment is handed out as the group becomes accustomed with its uses and importance. After breakfast its time to hit the lift!
Using the Huckleberry Chairlift we start from the base of the mountain and take you up more than 1000 vertical feet (300 meters) where the Powder Stagecoach will be waiting to take you further up the mountain into our dedicated cat skiing terrain. Riding the chair lift cuts out a significant chunk of time which means you get to enjoy the powder quicker than you would without the lift.
But before you jump into the cat our guides take you through a practical test of your avalanche gear. Seen here a few guests try and locate a buried backpack using their transceiver.
Once in the cat enjoy a scenic ride up Haig Ridge. Coincidentally this is the same route our Cat travels on our new Scenic Snow Cat Tour. Once at the destination (determined by the head guide depending on conditions) you will exit the Cat and prepare yourself for the time of your life.
EVERYTHING GOES DOWNHILL FROM THERE!
Enter a wonderland of fresh powder and scenic terrain as your cat skiing experience is turned up a notch. You’ll be skiing some 900 acres, reserved only for our cat skiing operation, which means you get to enjoy the freshest snow, no tracks, and a whole mountain all to yourself! Be rewarded with 6 – 8 runs (depending on timing and conditions) in your own powder paradise before heading back down to the day lodge for apres-ski.
Each run ends on our back-to-lift traverse which leads you to the base of Huckleberry Chairlift. Following a quick regroup it’s back up the chairlift and another ride in the cat. From then on you are back to slashing those powdery turns and enjoying some of the best terrain at Castle. So even though it is a back country you are never too far from the comforts of our base area facilities including washrooms, repair shop, and warm buildings. Are guides are more than accommodating when considering your need for the washroom or any other need you may have.
Your dedicated photographer that will have been following you for the morning segment of your day will greet you back in the day lodge where beverages will be waiting for you. Enjoy a slideshow of the pictures they shot of you and your group and have a laugh at some of the wipeouts!
Following the finale of the slideshow the day is all yours. Perhaps choose to hang around the resort and enjoy a fresh beer or delicious pizza at our famous T-Bar Pub & Grub.

Dear Powder Coach,
We are from Calgary have skied Castle before with wonderful experiences . Now I am curious about that cat skiing offer
it says with the season pass or Castle card we could book a day cat skiing for a day for $ 319.00 I have either or . Could you explain a bit more about the details . Are the days picked at the time of booking or can they be picked whenever?
It also says lift assisted Cat Skiing could you give me more detail on that please.
Hi Fritz,
Thanks for your message. Our cat skiing calendar is broken down into two different seasons; peak and off-peak. Off-peak season dates are essentially those in the early season; from December 26 to January 18 and carry a rate of $399.95 + GST. Peak season rates are in effect from January 23 to March 14 and carry a rate of $499.95 + GST. You would be eligible for 20% off either of these rates but you do have to commit to booking a specific date (discounts do not apply to open dated certificates).
Our cat skiing operation is lift assisted in that our guests take the Huckleberry Chairlift up to meet the cat, each and every run. That means you’ll gain about 1100 feet of vertical via chair and about the same via cat, resulting in runs in the vicinity of 2000 vertical feet!
